Skinny Chinese Vegetable Chicken And Noodles

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 8oz chicken breast tenders, uncooked
  • 1 large red pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • 10 oz package frozen chopped broccoli
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • garlic powder, ginger, black pepper, chili pepper
  • 3 Tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. low sodium soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • 4 oz dry spaghetti

DIRECTIONS:

Cook spaghetti according to package directions, drain and rinse.  Meanwhile, heat oil in large pan.  Stir fry chicken, vegetables and spices until chicken is well cooked.  Stir in rice vinegar and soy sauce; then stir in the honey.  Blend in the spaghetti.

Daily Weighing Promotes Weight Loss

According to a recent study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, daily weighing was associated with greater weight loss than weighing most days of the week.  Participants who weighed daily lost an average of 20 pounds at 6 months compared to only an average of 7 pounds lost by those weighing less than daily.  The study concluded daily weighers adopted more weight control behaviors and strategies than those weighing less often.  This is a significant difference in weight loss demonstrating that daily weighing can have an impact on losing weight!

Weight Watchers 3 Ingredient Pineapple Cake

I stumbled across this Weight Watcher recipe a few years ago and it is fantastic.  It takes about one whole minute to whip together and it is low calorie and no fat!!

 

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1- Angel Food Cake Mix
  • 1- 20 oz. Can Crushed Pineapple in juice
  • 1- Fat Free Cool Whip

 

 

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven  350 degrees F.  Mix package of Angel Food Cake Mix and one 20 oz. can of crushed pineapple.  Pour into an ungreased 9″x13″ pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes.   Let Cool.  Spread Cool Whip on top.  Makes 16 servings!

Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookie

Healthy and only 4 ingredients.  Also, gluten-free if you use gluten-free oats and vegan if you use raisins in place of chips.  You may substitute any dried fruit, such as, dried cranberries or dates.  Either way, they are delicious!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1 Cup Pumpkin
  • 1 Cup Oats
  • 1/4 Cup Chocolate Chips
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Raisins (Optional)

 

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together.  Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray.  Spoon mixture onto cookie sheet and press down. Bake for 15 minutes.  Let cool.  Makes 15 cookies.

Skinny Razz-a-Dazz Chicken

When life is hectic, I love simple and easy recipes that are actually healthy and low in calories.  This “Razz Chicken” recipe only needs 3 ingredient, yay!  It takes literally 2 minutes to prepare and throw it in the oven!  I actually used frozen chicken breasts which required longer baking time.

As you can see from the above pic, I’m on a veggie kick.  Therefore, I had it with 2 veggies and left out the carbs.  It was very satisfying and I feel thinner!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 4- 4 oz. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup fat-free raspberry vinaigrette
  • 3 tbsp. dried basil

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven at 350°F. Place chicken breast in baking dish. Pour raspberry vinaigrette over chicken and sprinkle basil on top. Cover and bake for 1 hour or until chicken is cooked through.

The New FDA Approved Diet Pill

Contrave is the newest FDA approved weight loss drug.  It is not only for the obese (BMI >30); it is approved for overweight individuals with BMI = 27 who have risk factors (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes).

Contrave combines two drugs already on the market:

  1. Wellbutrin — an antidepressant.
  2. Naltrexone (Revia) — an anti-addiction drug that is an opioid receptor antagonist.

How does it work?  It takes away hunger and the cravings for food.  Experts do not fully understand the drug combination effects on weight loss.  However, they think wellbutrin decreases appetite and naltrexone probably blocks the receptors in the brain and curbs cravings.

You should not take this drug if you have a seizure disorder, eating disorder or are pregnant.  And, it is meant to be used with a healthy diet and exercise plan.

In clinical trials, participants loss 5% to 10% and kept the weight off for up to 1 full year.  On average, those who took contrave for 6 months combined with a weight management program loss 25 pounds.

 

Black Bean & Barley Soup

January is Soup Month!

How perfect is that!  It’s snowy, cold, and dreary outside setting the mood for home-made soup.  In addition, soup can be very healthy, low in calories, high in fiber and very satisfying keeping you on track with your diet resolutions.

If you like black beans and barley, this soup is delicious.  Of coarse, super easy to make.  You can have it as a main entree or as a side dish.

WHAT YOU NEED:

1 tablespoon Olive Oil
3 tsp Garlic, raw
1 cup Diced Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic and Oregano, can, all averages
2 can Black Beans, canned
32 oz Organic Vegetable Broth, all averages
1/3 Cup Dry Quaker Quick Barley
1 cup 8 fl oz Water
1 tsp, leaves Basil
1 tbsp Parsley, dried

DIRECTIONS:

In large stock pot, sautee garlic in olive oil over medium heat. Add canned tomatoes and 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed, and simmer for 5 minutes. Add vegetable broth, barley, water, and spices and bring to almost boil. Then cover and simmer over very low heat for 20 minutes. Stir in 2nd can of black beans, drained and rinsed, and heat for an additional 5 minutes.  Makes 8 servings.
